Some of the Orwellian government measures do seem a bit far-festched, particuarly internment of Muslims, but others like increased surveillance and curfews, are not just within the incenciary of possibility but have actually been implemented by this and the previous government. Its one of those books people talk about, the types that change your perspective on the world and open your eyes to what your missing, its also one that makes the reader feel conflicted between crying their eyes out, laughing at the main character quick wit, and marvelling at her.

I have already put Little Bee on hold at the library. P, you just captured the love of a mother so well. Totally blown away by Incendiary. However, I listened to the audio version and the reader was tailor made for the part.

I was nearly in tears during her stay in hospital which I have not felt about a book for a long time. I spent over pages feeling sorry for and being appalled by the life of this woman and wasn’t even bothered that I didn’t know her name.

The woman is flawed. I hope im making sense lol. It’s a deep, brutal, personal look at human nature and tragedy. But what I found most engaging was how the character navigates her way through the remade London which emerges from the ashes of the attack. I come from China. The subject matter was deep in more ways than I thought it would be. Second, Cleave wrote this novel in a six-week cleavee after the Madrid bombings, but before the bombings in London. The smell of the flat, the shopping for incendiaryy for a child, a boy’s handmade bedroom are vivid against the explosive backdrop of this tragedy were almost too vivid and too poignant and I found myself unable clewve actually keep reading if my kids were in the room playing.

I love the fact that you did not give the main character a name, but am having a hard time understanding the overall structure of dividing the book into seasons. Thanks very much for your beautiful words.

I read about as much of this as I could, and at that point it was not only offensive but actually ridiculous with characters who were over the top such that nothing could be taken seriously.
