This is not the big book about a big movie Casablanca, Citizen Kane, or Porky’s 2 but what it is is a great behind the scenes look at just making a Hollywood studio movie. Ira Behr and Eric Stillwell both contributed essays for the book. Not only was this a well written piece of non-fiction, it provided some great insights inskrrection subtle and not-so-subtle themes. Insurrection is one if my favourite Trek movies. Maybe his desperation for writers and good scripts during that third season of Next Gen gave him some insights on how to get more good ones.

Those brilliant guys coming from the heart, throwing ideas around, creating great television with, I’m sure, some laughter and some tears. Trivia About Fade In: The first half of the book documents these ideas in a series of script excerpts. So even that discounted price put me off.

I’m not sure I’d be as big a Trekkie knsurrection I am without Piller’s influenc I found this fascinating and I’m glad it’s finally been made available to read. Moreover, it is unfortunate that the movies make Riker, Troi, Crusher, LaForge, and Worf subsidiary characters to Data and Picard – but again, you have to satisfy the big thd if the project is to advance. But at the time he did get to see it in the few conventions he went to with the fans and he saw their obvious hope for that kind of future for all.

No trivia or quizzes yet. Piller’s concepts and eventual script passes through a lot of hands, including that of TREK head Rick Berman, plenty of Paramount makinf people, and the movie’s two main stars, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner.

Oct 08, Thomas rated it liked it. For all practical purposes, there is little cost per book. It seemed to be easier to write the book than the movie, as he had been there before. I want it to insurrectioon about the most horrible, treacherous aliens ever known to man who are about to destroy life as we know it, leading to the most spectacular thrill ride of an adventure with fantastic space battles and huge explosions and stat special effects — a white knuckle ride for the movie audience.


It would have loved to get to hear about Insurrection first hand, but not at that price. The most compelling aspect of the book is the studio notes that are written, sometimes verbatim, from Paramount executives. I’m having university flashbacks.

Often history tells the truer story. It contains two full outlines of what Star Trek insurrection could have been. They loved the storyline and feel it was even ahead of its time. And he really was amazing. Insurrection isn’t my favorite Trek film, but now I understand the why and how of what we insurrectoon. Sandra Piller announced in July that the book was being printed and would be available for purchase. Based on that price, they aren’t kidding about the “published as a textbook” thing.

Because Star Tr I haven’t read a book this bad in a long time. Piller is refreshingly honest about the process of creation and change that goes into making a movie.
